Robbers and snatchers seem to be getting an early start on their season of preying on holiday shoppers. Kurukuro features another criminal syndicate, Gapos Gang, to watch out this holiday season. This group may attack more often as the festive season starts. All homeowners and condominium unit owners should exercise prudence in looking after their residences.

Gang Profile: Gapos (English translation: tie up or bind) Gang is a group of armed individuals whose main objective is to rob residential houses, condominiums and small offices in order to obtain financial or material gain. These people are backed by vast resources in order for them to get the best strategist and latest technology that will aid them in their criminal activities. The group is mostly composed of criminals with experiences in well planned operation and can handle high powered weapons. In some cases, robbery groups may avail the services of rogue police/military personnel for their expertise.

After Ivan Padilla, the leader of a carjacking syndicate, was killed in a police shootout, all motorists and the police felt safer now knowing that the group’s criminal activities were cut abruptly. Weeks after, the honeymoon stage between police and the carnapping syndicates will be short-lived. Significant number of carjacking cases had been reported in Metro Manila.

Police checkpoints are meant to cut the movement of criminal syndicates, particularly carnapping and kidnap for ransom gangs, and prevent them for further movement of activities. Checkpoints are usually manned by police, military and civilian components from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police (PNP).   Kurukuro warns all readers to be aware that there are some crooked Metro Manila policemen who resort to extortion via police checkpoints to earn extra income to sustain their personal interest. Ativan Gang is a robbery group that preys on victims and robs them after placing their drinks with prescription sedative called Ativan. Adverse effects of Ativan are hypnotic, amnesic, confusion and sedation. One tablet can knockout an individual from six to 12 hours.

Dancing Snatchers

As the holiday season approaches, robberies, shoplifting, mugging and other type of thefts typically increase. The reason for pre Christmas surge in crime is due to criminals’ awareness of Christmas cash bonus distribution to all working people and influx of remittance money for holiday shopping.

BUMP AND ROB STYLE

The Philippine National Police(PNP) warns the public of Bundol (English translation: rear end) Gang, a robbery group, whose modus operandi is to rob newly arrived passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in dimly lit areas in Metro Manila. A tipster, who the criminals connive inside the airport, will inform the syndicate of potential targets. Once spotted, the criminals will follow the newly arrived victims in an unmarked vehicle. Upon reaching a dimly lit area, the suspects on a van will rear end the victims’ car to stop the vehicle. As soon as the victims’ alight from their vehicle to inspect the damage area, the armed suspects will approach them and announce the holdup. One of the robbers would commandeer the victims’ vehicle and drive off to an area where they will dump the victims. If victims resist, the criminals will not hesitate to shoot their victims.
